Shravan Kummar Ramaswamy is celebrated for his devotion to handlooms, his vintage inspired sensibilities and his research driven approach to design. Born and raised in Hyderabad, he carries forward the traditional values and ethics that shaped his early life and continue to guide his creative practice.
Although he secured an exceptional rank in the medical entrance examination, his heart remained aligned with the rhythmic world of weaving, spinning and dyeing. He chose to pursue design at NIFT Hyderabad, followed by a Masters in Color Psychology from the London School of Fashion Design and an MBA, blending artistic intuition with academic strength.
Shravan began his journey at the age of 17 with a Kalamkari line of garments that introduced his love for handcrafted textiles. Over time he worked with treasured Indian weaves including Pochampally, Narayanpet, Chirala, Banarasi and the Kerala Bharath Society. His fascination with heirloom saris led him to study century old drapes from his family and later rare textiles from royal households in Hyderabad, Jaipur, Patiala and Gwalior. These discoveries deepened his commitment to reviving forgotten weaves.
His creative universe has expanded into clothing, accessories, jewellery inspired by bygone eras and bespoke event design. Each extension of the brand reflects his belief in preserving culture with elegance and intention.
Shravan’s strongest mission is anchored in empowerment and social responsibility. He established Aalayam, a non governmental organisation dedicated to improving the lives of rural weavers through training programs, micro credit support and design development. His annual showcase titled An Ode to Weaves and Weavers features more than one hundred weaves from across India including khadi, jamdani, paithani, kalamkari, mata ni pachedi, ikat or patola, chikankari, parsi, kutch and zardozi. The showcase serves as a tribute to artisans and a reminder of India’s vast textile heritage.
Through every creation, Shravan Kummar Ramaswamy continues to celebrate craftsmanship, culture and community, ensuring that the legacy of Indian handlooms endures with dignity and brilliance.
